Goldilocks & Microwaves
As I was reheating my too cold coffee, I realized WHY in Goldilocks Mama Bear’s porridge was too cold. ❄️
It had never made sense to me when I had heard the story growing up. Like why in the world would Papa Bear’s be hot and Baby Bear’s be just right and Mama Bear’s was cold?
Now as a mom myself, I get it.
Mama Bear served her family first and then by the time it was her turn to eat, the meal was cold.
As mamas, this happens so often.
You drink your coffee last, you eat last, you get ready last, you leave the house last, you go to bed last.
Your needs matter last.
It seems to be a standard mom thing. You give, give, give, and as thanks you receive last.
It’s time for you to put yourself first. Don’t you think?
Maybe not every time in every situation, but you are a priority too.
Let’s stop accepting Mama Bear’s fate as our own.
So this week, I want you to do the following:
-make the time to drink your coffee hot (regardless of the dishes that need to be done or kids screaming for you or whatever usually takes you away from it)
-take an hour for yourself in the evening to do something just for you (take a hot bath with candles, watch a rom-com, read a book, crochet)
-get yourself ready before taking care of anyone else (wear an outfit that makes you feel good, put on some mascara, style your hair and then worry about wrangling the kiddos into whatever stylistically questionable attire they choose)
Little moments of prioritizing and choosing you can make a big difference in how you feel.
It’s time we had our porridge “just right” too.
